Maumelle Soccer Club (MSC) classic teams will now be known as Real Arkansas. Pronounced “re-al”, the word is Spanish for royal.

Maumelle, AR - May 5, 2017 – Maumelle Soccer Club (MSC) classic teams will now be known as Real Arkansas. Pronounced “re-al”, the word is Spanish for royal. “After 30 years, we’re proud to still be an active member of the soccer community,” said Joshua Clausen, MSC president. “These changes will keep Maumelle soccer competitive as the Arkansas landscape changes.”

The distinction between the recreational and classic programs proves MSC’s dedication to each side of the sport. Expanded age groups give youth the opportunity to play where they feel comfortable – deciding in their own time between academy and Real Arkansas.

Based on the Madrid Football Club of Spain, the classic team name was carefully chosen. In 1920, King Alfonso XIII of Spain bestowed the name “real,” meaning royal, on the Madrid club along with the royal crown in the emblem.

“The name Real Arkansas connects our local club with the global soccer community,” said Brad Pullen, MSC vice president. “Maumelle is rich in friendship, loyalty and competitive spirit – this name lives up to that reputation.”
